The Environmental Protection Agency Region 8 awarded a $600,000 Cooperative Agreement to the Town of La Veta on April 6, 2026, under the Congressionally Mandated Projects program (CFDA 66.202) to decommission an existing two-celled stabilization lagoon wastewater treatment facility and restore the site to native conditions.
The Town of La Veta will execute decommissioning activities on a 10.1-acre site in La Veta, Colorado, including beneficial reuse of accumulated biosolids through land application and mixing within the cells, demolition and removal of site infrastructure such as barbed wire fencing, concrete structures, manholes, site piping, aerators, floating baffle curtains, and a chlorination building, grading to design contours, and reseeding with native grass seed mix.
