Description

This agreement provides funding to sharpsburg and neighboring area water system to implement phase 3 of their water distribution system improvement plan as directed in the 2023 consolidated appropriations act or as identified in an approved technical correction if one has been approved for this project.activities:the activities to be performed include: - the contractual purchase and installation of 24,255 linear feet of 6' PVC water main to be installed by open trenching. - the contractual purchase and installation 54,465 linear feet of 4' PVC water main to be installed by open trenching. - the contractual purchase and installation of 1,240 linear feet of 4' PVC water main to be installed by horizontal directional drilling.subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:the anticipated deliverables are the purchase and installation of an additional 81,960 linear feet of water main, which is expected to provide safe and reliable potable water to approximately 50 rural households and farmsteads in the sharpsburg and neighboring area. As of right now, residents of this area rely on well water that is historically known to have had issues with high level of nitrates, herbicides, and sodium to the point that the local health department has advised against residents using the water for drinking, cooking or bathing. Additionally, this project will allow for a more energy efficient water source for these residents. No longer will they have to rely on electric well pumps or utilize trucks to haul water to their homes. All these best practices will contribute to less man hours, less power consumption, less vehicle use to each site and more water conservation. In turn this will contribute positively to the environment by requiring less fossil fuel being utilized in the operation and an overall reduced carbon footprint for the water system.
