The wheatland school district is applying for this grant opportunity to address the gaps in reading and language usage knowledge

The Wheatland Union High School District was awarded a $500,000 block grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) under the Competitive Grants: Promoting K-12 Student Achievement at Military-Connected Schools program (CFDA 12.556). The grant will support the district's efforts to address gaps in reading and language skills among students through initiatives focusing on literacy development from September 2022 to May 2027. As part of DoDEA's Educational Partnership Grant Program aimed at meeting the needs of highly mobile military-connected students, this award will help the district remediate COVID-19 related learning loss in English and boost student achievement across other subjects by increasing the use of literacy strategies and comprehension tools.

Focusing on building literacy among all student groups will not only help remediate the covid-related learning loss in english but will have a positive impact on student achievement in all other subject areas as well due to increased use of literacy strategies and comprehension.
