About this award
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded the New York State Department of Health a $3.4 billion Block Grant under the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for the period of October 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022. The grant funding will enable the State of New York to maintain and expand health insurance assistance for low-income children and pregnant women through the state's CHIP program. The Children's Health Insurance Program aims to provide federal matching funds to states for insuring children and pregnant women who are not eligible for Medicaid but who cannot afford private coverage. New York will administer the CHIP program and use the federal grant funds to deliver child health assistance services to uninsured residents meeting eligibility criteria during the six-month grant period.
