Description
"tomorrow's engineering and mathematics (team) workforce initiative" summary: to accomplish the goals of tomorrow's engineering and mathematics (team) workforce initiative, the gulf coast exploreum science center will deliver a series of public and student science learning experiences that fall into four categories: hands-on science exhibits; 3D visualization presentations; lab bench hands-on experiments and demonstrations; and ancillary resource materials. These experiences will: stimulate increased enrollment in engineering, mathematics and science in alabama's universities by instructing and inspiring k-12 students in the fundamentals and application of these fields; and increase interest and academic achievement in k-12 engineering, mathematics and science education in south alabama. The team workforce initiative directly supports NASA's education goals: to engage the public in shaping and sharing the experience of exploration and discovery; and to improve public understanding and appreciation of science and technology, including NASA aerospace technology, research, and exploration missions. IT does so through activities that build public awareness of, interest in, and understanding of the basic principles that are the building blocks of the more complex NASA disciplines of astronomy, space science, aerospace technology, propulsion physics, etc. Audiences served include k-12 students and their teachers, families with children under 12, and adults interested in life-long learning. The geographic region served is south alabama and the gulf coast regions of mississippi and florida. The exploreum will partner with area school board administrators and teachers, community groups and organizations servicing at risk youth.
