About this award
The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $250,000.00 firm fixed price purchase order to the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) for coating analysis services. This contract builds on prior research conducted by USM under a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) contract, where USM developed unique capabilities in evaluating coating parameters through specialized techniques such as fluorescent probes, relative humidity dynamic mechanical analysis, internal stress measurement, and correlative microscopy. USM will use these proprietary techniques to analyze a new vinyl resin coating developed by the Corps' Paint Technology Center and generate performance-based criteria to compare it to other commercially available systems. This sole source award was not set aside for any type of small business. Through past contracts and grants, USM has provided the federal government with a range of research, testing, and analysis services, as well as education and training programs, spanning topics from ocean science to materials development.
