Description

The evaluation and maturation of lunar landing system sensors technologies are essential in providing precise and safe autonomous, crewed and UN-crewed lunar return. Critical sensor technology tests must be performed to characterize and understand the performance of these sensor technologies and how they integrate into the autonomous landing and hazard avoidance technology (alhat) projects lunar landing system architecture. Conduct a series of tests which will evaluate and characterize the performance of sensor technology. The macdonald, dettwiler and associates XSS-11 engineering model (EM) and the ilris-3D imaging system provides a unique opportunity to conduct sensor performance characterization tests critical to the understanding of essential sensor technology relevant to the alhat project. Testing of the contractors lidar 3-d imaging system will be conducted in NASA larcs sensor test range (STR). Sensor characteristics such as range angular and depth resolution, precision, accuracy, operational range, and sub-pixel depth imaging of the sensor will be obtained. The contractor shall perform the following at larc: provide laser parameters required to generate a NASA larc test safety permit. Provide, set up, and calibrate the lidar 3-d imaging system in larcs STR. Collaborate with NASA scientists and engineers on experimental objectives. Participate with NASA test engineers in conducting the test. For the XSS-11 EM lidar: deliver unprocessed raw point cloud data in range, azimuth, elevation and intensity per point. If the sensor is unable to provide raw data, provide pre-processed or processed data. Provide data file format description for the collected sensor data. Convert raw point cloud data files to vrml. Deliver both unprocessed cloud files and their equivalent vrml files. For ilris-3D imaging system: raw data file is saved to a proprietary .13D format (left handed cartesian coordinates + intensity) which can not be viewed using a free data visualization software.
