Description
Develop software for a retrodirective phase control system i recommend that NASA, lyndon b. Johnson space center negotiate with DR. Kent byerly, doing business as spatial acurity, only for analysis support for the development of signal processing algorithms for retro directive phase control with doppler tracking. This work will provide vital support for NASA s efforts to use a microwave system for the coarse pointing of a laser in a space based transmission experiment. The total estimated cost of this effort is $35,000 and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 180 days. This analysis and development are critical as the first step in a series of progressively more complex ground and space demonstrations for laser power beaming. DR. Byerly developed all of the present algorithms for signal detection, processing, and phase control in a first generation phase conjugation system. The space application for this system has the additional constraints of having baseband coded modulation and doppler shifts due to relative motion between the ground equipment and space hardware. DR. Byerly will be able to modify the existing software/firmware to handle the unique demands of a power beaming experiment in an outdoor dynamic experiment. Pursuant to far 6.302-1 (2)(II)(b) only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agencies requirements when supplies may deemed to be available from the original source in the case of a continued development when IT is likely that award to any other source would result in unacceptable delays in fulfilling the agency s requirements. This phase detection/control system will be used for the microwave pointing and alignment of a laser for power transmission, first as a ground to air experiment and then as an ISS (international space station) to satellite (falconsat) experiment. IT is time critical that this new phase detection/phase conjugation technology be developed and demonstrated in FY2011. The later, more complex, and costly experiments depend upon this technology working. DR. Byerly has the unique knowledge and expertise to get this technology working within the next six months.
