Description

Objective is to provide the necessary manpower to support NASA's development of a wideband plastic land mine detector. This is a prototype unit. Another objective is to provide the necessary manpower to support NASA's investigation into the use of pulsed electromagnetic (EM) energy to enhance muscle tissue and bone destiny subject to long term effects of zero gravity. These investigations include changing and optimizing the characteristics of the EM fields, e.g., the frequency, pulse, duration, amplitude, phasing, number of signal sweeps, etc, and systemically ascertaining their cumulative effects of gene expression changes in the muscle and bone cells. This contract will serve as the mechanism for defining both JSC and beryl responsibilities associated with the development of a wideband plastic land mine detector and a pulsed electromagnetic field (pemf) testing system compatible with an existing NASA bioreactor. Specifically, the byerly will: modify the existing software detection algorithms to be implemented in a general purpose digital signal processor (DSP), which are capable of controlling and varying the input parameters to the wideband detector. The input parameters include, but are not limited to input frequency, swept frequency range, number of discrete frequency steps, number of frequency burst per time interval, amplitude of driving current, and averaging parameters. These modifications are to cure the present problem of the detector not being bale to handle differences in antenna height above the ground. Documentation of the algorithms, input parameters, and source code should be provided. Modify the software algorithms to be implemented in a general purpose digital signal processor (DSP), which are capable of controlling and varying the input parameters to a time varying magnetic field generator. The input parameters include, but are not limited to: input frequency, swept frequency range, number of discrete frequency steps, number of frequency burst per time interval, amplitude of driving current, and averaging parameters.
