The governments' preference is to purchase refurbished equipment. This acquisition will be processed in accordance with simplified acquisition procedures as stated in FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1).The North American Industry Classification System code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. Only one award will be made as a result of this solicitation. This will be awarded as a firm fixed price type contract.Delivery Date: 90 days from date of award. The Tecan Freedom EVO will facilitate the processing of a variety of research specimens and human tissue samples obtained in clinical trials in progress in the NCI. NCI's efforts focus on oncogenic signaling pathways that contribute to the onset and progression of genitourinary (GU) malignancies, amongst which include prostate, bladder and kidney cancers are the most prevalent and deadly. In the US alone, over 380,000 new GU cancer cases will be diagnosed in 2012, claiming more than 56,000 lives in the same period. The major goals of NCI include the identification and characterization of new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of GU malignancies, as well as pharmacodynamic markers of treatment response. Sample analysis for these trials is already in progress but is costly and extremely labor intensive. The Tecan Freedom EVO system provides for full automation of all plate handling prior to signal detection and also operates the Sector 2400 Imager (typically 10 or more processes per assay). In addition to providing true high-toughput capability, this system will improve the accuracy and reproducibility of NCI's assays, while significantly reducing human labor time and total program operating costs. The following salient characteristics apply to the Tecan Freedom EVO 100 Liquid Handler:• Precise liquid handling system with the added capability of microplate transfer• 100 cm worktable with 30 grids for positioning labware carriers• Liquid system comprised of tubing, valves and connectors driven by four independent diluter pistons and a fast wash pump• 4-tip liquid handling arm with independent Z-movement and liquid level sensing for each channel• Availability of a variety of tip types included fixed and disposable • Volume range from 5 mL to 500 nL depending on syringe size, tip type and presence of low volume option• Robotic manipulator arm with 5 axes of movement for the transfer of microplate format labware to different positions on the worktable• Software-controlled orbital mixer compatible with microplate format labware and capable of mounting on the worktableThe Brand Name Tecan Freedom Evo 100 Liquid Handler is the only known product with all the characteristics listed above. The Tecan Freedom Evo 100 Liquid Handler fulfills the NCI's requirements and scientific options integral to the research, specifically it provides full automation of all plate handling prior to signal detection and also operates the Sector 2400 Imager. In addition to providing true high-toughput capability, this system will improve the accuracy and reproducibility of NCI's assays, while significantly reducing human labor time and total program operating cost.
