Description
Emergency replacement of the 22L glide slope antenna assembly and tower foundation. Scope of work: 1. Demolish existing antenna. 2. Excavate for replacement antenna foundation. 3. Furnish and place reinforcing and concrete. 4. Others to provide anchor bolts for one antenna base attachment point. 5. Furnish and install conduit and wiring as required. 6. Assemble antenna as directed. Propose furnishing alternative anchor bolt assembly, due to extremely short time available for material procurement,. Alternative antenna attahcment detail for two point: instead of four 7/8 inch diameter by 18 inch long by 6 inch long anchor bolts, propose four 7/8 inch diameter by 24 inch long straight threaded rod each bolted to one 16 inch square by 1/2 inch thick steel plate embedded at least 18 inches below top surface of antenna foundation. Emergency justiciation: new building consturction in the village of rosemont interfered with the proper operation of the 22L glideslope, forcing US to take IT out of service and replace IT with newer, more accurate equipment. The urgency to replace IT was due to the impact IT created while not being in service to the airlines. Aircraft delays were projected to be between 20 and 26 airplanes an hour and this will create serious financial hardships on airlines and customers who use o'hare international airport.
