About this award

This federal contract award from the Headquarters of the Civilian agency with ID 6900|6920|VPFAAHQ-A, valued at $91,367.51, was issued as a Firm Fixed Price Purchase Order to TSI Incorporated, a subsidiary of The Churchill Companies. The contract is for the acquisition of a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) capable of measuring particle sizes from 1 to 1,000 nanometers and concentrations up to 300,000 particles per cubic centimeter. The SMPS will be used to measure particle size distribution and concentration of artificially generated smoke for testing certification methods of state-of-the-art false alarm resistant smoke detectors for aircraft cargo compartments. Additional uses include evaluating particle size in ultra-fine water mist sprays for fire suppression, smoke dissipation and transport properties, and measuring particle size of solid aerosol fire extinguishment agents in various areas of an airplane. This contract award did not have a set-aside designation.

Description

This request is to purchase equipment with the capability of measuring particle size in the range 1 to 1,000 nanometers (NM) and a concentration range of up to 300,000 particles per cubic centimeter. Market research has revealed only one apparatus with these capabilities, the scanning mobility particle sizer (smps) from TSI, INC. The equipment will be used to measure the particle size distribution and concentration in artificially generated smoke for testing the certification methods of state-of-the-art false alarm resistant smoke detectors for aircraft cargo compartments. Other uses include evaluation of particle size in ultra-fine water mist sprays for fire suppression, evaluation of smoke dissipation and transport properties, and measurement of particle size of solid aerosol fire extinguishment agents in various areas of an airplane (cargo compartment, engine nacelle, etc.)
