Description
Challenger learning center of northwest indiana the challenger learning center of northwest indiana is a space science education center that opened its doors in 1999 on the campus of purdue university calumet in hammond, indiana. Despite our premier location, we are not operated by purdue university calumet and are dependent on individual gifts, corporate gifts, grants and program revenue. Our non-profit center is part of a network of international learning centers that endeavor to carry on the educational mission of the challenger 51-l crew and the first teacher in space, christa mcauliffe. Through simulated missions, e-missions (distance learning), hands-on science activity labs, sky voyages (planetarium program), corporate missions, summer camps & many other family/community programs, nearly 150,000 students and adults have visited our learning center to experience the excitement of our original programming. The funding from this proposal will strengthen our existing stem programs and implement new stem programs.
