About this award

This federal contract award to the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), a division of the Smithsonian Institution, supports the production of a high-quality solar wind ion key parameter data product for astrophysics research. The $93,924.47 grant is funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and will derive the data from measurements made by the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) Faraday Cup instrument. SAO will maintain and validate the data, which will be archived with the Goddard Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF) for one year. This contract is not associated with any set-aside designations. As a leading provider of scientific research and instrumentation development for federal agencies, particularly NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Smithsonian Institution frequently collaborates on projects as both a prime contractor and subcontractor.

Description

Support is requested for scientists at the smithsonian astrophysical observatory SAO to produce a best quality solar wind ION key parameter KP data product suitable for multipurpose astrophysics research. These data will be derived from level 0 measurements made by the deep space climate observatory dscovr plasmag faraday cup investigation. This data product will be maintained and validated by SAO scientists, and archived with the goddard space physics data facility spdf coordinated data analysis web cdaweb for a period of one year.
