About this award

This federal contract award, with the ID NNX16AT50G, was granted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the University of Iowa. The contract, valued at $162,840.00, is for the University of Iowa to conduct and complete 16 different simulations related to El Niño and non-El Niño years, analyze the results, and develop hypotheses to interpret the findings. The work will be summarized in a journal manuscript for peer review. The contract does not have a set-aside designation. The University of Iowa, a major public research university, is the prime contractor on this award.

Description

Conduct and complete 16 different simulations for EL nino years (SEP. OCT. 2006) and non EL nino years (2012 when 7SEAS pilot field campaign was conducted). Analysis these simulations to conceive various plausible hypothesisis to interpret the results. Test various hypothesis through sensitivity experiments at meso scale. This test together with the work in year will be summarized in a journal manuscript for peer review. For those hypothesis involving processes at the microscopic scale, we will work with LES modeling group for different sensitivity experiments. Evaluate the model results with observations, and analysis the results to answer the relative importance of land use VS. Smoke effect in the change of precipitation days. This answers will be mainly form the regional to mesoscale perspective in the context in the EL nino VS. Non nino years, and will be summarized in a journal manuscript for peer review.
