About this award
This is a $132,550 grant award from the Shared Services Center of a civilian federal agency to DHC Engineering, a for-profit organization. The award is for research on three innovation paths for an "efficient reconfigurable cockpit design and fleet operations" that will enable better optimization through software-based autonomous control, networked/cloud-based architecture, and wireless communication inside aircraft. The award does not have a set-aside designation. The research aims to reduce weight and enable better optimization.
Description
There are three innovation paths in this proposed research. These include: migrating completely towards software based autonomous control, which is simulated in advanced gaming functions and likely to be available in most advanced self-driving cars and unmanned aerial systems. Networked/cloud-based architecture to provide direct services to individual aircraft operations as well as operations that consider fleet and crew optimization wireless communication inside aircraft for aircraft sub-system control the aggregate of these innovation paths will lead to an innovative cockpit and aircraft design that will reduce weight and enable better optimization.
