About this award
This federal contract award, identified as NNX15AH45G, was granted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the Regents of the University of Idaho, doing business as the University of Idaho. The $340,200.11 grant will fund a comprehensive analysis of occultation observations of Uranus' narrow rings, with the goal of obtaining new insights into the dynamics of the ring system and placing improved constraints on the internal structure of the planet. The research project will extend the time baseline of observations from 1977-1986 to 2002, and increase the number of individual ring measurements by more than 50%. This contract does not have a set-aside designation.
Description
We propose to perform a comprehensive analysis of all available occultation observations of uranus' narrow rings in order to obtain new insights into the dynamics of the ring system and place improved constraints the internal structure of the planet. The most recent detailed orbit model for the uranian rings (french ET AL. In the u.AZ. Press book uranus from 1991) used data obtained between 1977 and 1986. The inclusion of previously unpublished uranus ground-based and HST occultation observations will extend the time baseline to 2002 and increase the number of individual ring measurements by more than 50%.
