About this award
This is a $530,783.00 grant awarded by the Shared Services Center, a civilian federal agency, to the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), a non-profit research institution in New York City. The grant is for a research project to 1) produce a catalog of 300,000 new stellar rotation periods, including 160,000 from M dwarf stars, 2) calculate 3D velocities and kinematic ages for these stars, and 3) use this data to extend gyrochronology relations into the M dwarf regime. The goal is to provide fundamental age measurements for M dwarfs, which host many exciting exoplanetary systems that are being studied by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). This research supports NASA's space exploration and astronomical observation programs. The grant has no set-aside designation.
