About this award
This contract award to Science Systems And Applications, Inc. (SSAI), a woman-owned small business, is for the primary objective of refining and enhancing the NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) MODIS and Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) VIIRS cryosphere algorithms and data products. The work includes developing algorithm refinements to increase the accuracy of snow-cover, sea ice cover, and ice surface temperature products, as well as reducing errors and cloud/snow confusion. The contract, with a ceiling value of $757,406.05, is a grant for research that does not have a set-aside designation. This award is part of SSAI's broader work with NASA, NOAA, and other federal agencies, providing scientific, engineering, and IT support services for Earth observation systems, climate research, and environmental monitoring programs.
Description
The primary objective of the proposed work is to refine and enhance the NASA EOS modis and s-NPP viirs cryosphere algorithms and data products. Specifically we will develop algorithm refinements to increase the accuracy of snow-cover, sea ICE cover and ICE surface temperature (IST) products, reduce errors of commission and omission and reduce instances of cloud/snow confusion. We also plan to develop cloud GAP-filled data layers for the snow products. Other plans include development of a layer of sea ICE concentration, and global lake ICE.
