About this award
This federal contract award, worth $99,999.00, was granted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the University of Iowa. The contract is for the continued operation of the Geotail Comprehensive Plasma Instrumentation (CPI) from October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018. The University of Iowa will be responsible for monitoring the CPI operation, acquiring and processing solar wind data, maintaining an online database, creating a publication bibliography, and archiving the solar wind distribution functions. This contract is not associated with a set-aside designation. The University of Iowa is the prime contractor and will be working directly with NASA under this award to support the agency's space physics research mission.
Description
This document describes the plan for continuing operation of the geotail comprehensive plasma instrumentation (CPI) during the period of time 1 october 2017 through 30 september 2018. Funding is requested at the university of iowa for the following purposes: (1) monitor the operation and status of the CPI, (2) acquire all instrument data and ancillary data from the polar-wind-geotail (PWG) data system, (3) process those solar wind (SW) data to derive physical parameters useful for scientific investigations, (4) maintain an online database (resident archive) that serves the data to the scientific community, (5) create and maintain a bibliography of publications that use the geotail CPI data, (6) modify software to produce archival solar wind distribution functions in scientific units, (7) archive these complete 3-dimensional solar wind distribution functions at the space physics data facility (spdf), and (8) develop, with spdf personnel, complete documentation for the use of these distribution functions.
