About this award
This is a task order awarded by NASA's Langley Research Center to Cornell Technical Services LLC, a small technology and professional services company based in Columbia, Maryland. The task order is for support to the Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols (MAIA) Standing Review Board, which provides independent assessments of the MAIA project's progress. MAIA is a NASA Earth Venture Instrument mission that will measure atmospheric aerosols and study their impact on human health. The task order has a ceiling value of $124,829 and a period of performance through September 2020. It is not a set-aside contract. The task order is issued under Cornell Technical Services' $111.75 million Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract with Langley Research Center, which supports evaluations, assessments, studies, and technical advisory services across NASA's science and aeronautics portfolios.
Description
": task order title: multi-angle imager for aerosols (maia) standing review board (SRB) support the maia project is a competed instrument project within the earth system science pathfinder program (essp), which is managed by the essp program office at langley research center (larc) for the earth science division (ESD) of the science mission directorate (SMD) of NASA. Maia is a category 3 project, per NASA NPR 7120.5E, and assigned a class c risk rating in accordance with NPR 8705.4. The maia project is managed for NASA by JPL within the JPL earth science and technology directorate. Maia is a JPL principal investigator (PI)-led investigation that was competitively selected in march 2016 under the NASA headquarters science mission directorate (SMD) announcement of opportunity entitled earth venture instrument 3. The objective of the maia investigation is to assess linkages between different airborne particulate matter (PM) types and adverse birth outcomes, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, and premature deaths. The maia project will develop a multiangle spectropolarminetric imaging instrument for operation in a sun-synchronous earth orbit to measure the particle types, sizes, concentrations, and geolocation of atmospheric aerosols. The project will develop models to analyze the instrument data and correlate the data with the birth, death, and hospital records to determine adverse human health outcomes associated with the measured aerosols. A standing review board (SRB) is responsible for independently assessing the health of the project. Independent reviews of projects are conducted at defined lifecycle milestones and are used to objectively assess the projects progress against the project plan, its readiness to proceed to the next lifecycle phase, compliance with NPR 7120.5 and NPR 7123.1 requirements, and the integrated baseline. The purpose of this task is to obtain support for the maia independent reviews and associated activities.
