Description
"" stratospheric observatory for infrared astronomy (sofia) standing review board (SRB) the purpose of this task order is to provide technical expertise and administrative support to the NASA ipao. Sofia entered phase e (operations) in may 2014. The sofia team is divided approximately equally between the sofia operations center (SOC) at armstrong flight research center (afrc) and the sofia science center (SSC) at ames research center (ARC). Sofia's entry into phase e marked the start of science research with the full flight envelope cleared, the observatory performance tuned, and four instruments available.since 2007, program management responsibility has been assigned to afrc. This assignment has taken advantage of afrc's expertise in airborne flight systems development. However, NASA has long planned to transition program management to ARC during the operational phase. This assignment shall take advantage of ARC's expertise in science mission operations. Day-to-day operations in the SOC and SSC will remain at their existing locations even as program management responsibility migrates to ARC. The SRB shall conduct a sofia program transition readiness review (ptrr) with the scope to assess the program's readiness for transition of program management from afrc to ARC.
