Description
"" other functions: task order title: global precipitation measurement (GPM) s team member support performing review activities through the operation readiness review (ORR). Purpose: 3.1. The baseline GPM project consists of a constellation of spacecraft to provide global precipitation measurement coverage. The NASA/japanese aerospace exploration agency (jaxa) core spacecraft will host a GPM microwave imager (GMI) and dual-frequency precipitation radar (DPR) to cross-calibrate the entire constellation. The core observatory will be launched into a 65- degree inclination, 400 KM altitude orbit by a jaxa-provided HII-a launch vehicle. The planned launch readiness date is february 14, 2013. The mission life is three years with sufficient propellant to achieve a goal of five years operations. Full mission success will be accomplished after baseline performance requirements are met. The goddard space flight center (gsfc) manages the project including the in-house development of the core spacecraft. The GMI is being developed under a cost-type contract with ball aerospace and technologies corporation (batc). The KA-band and KU-band DPR are being developed by jaxa as an international partnership documented in a NASA/jaxa memorandum of understanding (MOU). This MOU includes a contribution of the GPM launch services on an HII-a launch vehicle.
