THE EIS WILL ANALYZE THE PROPOSED MARS 2020 MISSION UNDER THE NASA SCIENCE MISSION DIRECTORATE, PLANETARY SCIENCES DIVISION. THE MARS 2020 MISSION PROPOSES TO UTILIZE A RADIOISOTOPE POWER SYSTEM (RPS) TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY FOR SPACECRAFT INSTRUMENTS. THE RPS UTILIZES PLUTONIUM-238 (PU-238) AS A HEAT SOURCE FOR THE GENERATION OF POWER. 3.1.2 THE EIS SHALL BE PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COUNCIL ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY S (CEQ S) NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT (NEPA) IMPLEMENTING REGULATIONS AND THE NASA NEPA IMPLEMENTING PROCEDURES.
