- This federal contract award is for the INSIGHT (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy, and Heat Transport) project, which is managed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center. The contract, valued at $285,349.00, was awarded to Cornell Technical Services LLC, a small technology and professional services company based in Columbia, Maryland. The purpose of this task is to obtain support for the 2016-2018 INSIGHT project extension...
- This is a $220,334.80 grant award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to The Research Foundation for the State University of New York (SUNY), acting on behalf of SUNY Geneseo, for the InSight mission to investigate the interior of Mars. The grant supports a geologic study of the landing site, including terrain mapping, regolith characterization, and monitoring of surface processes to aid the deployment and operation of the InSight science instruments. The principal...
- This federal contract award is for a research grant to the Trustees of the Colorado School of Mines (doing business as Colorado School of Mines) to support the INSIGHT mission, the first planetary mission since the Apollo mission dedicated to acquiring geophysical data from surface-installed instruments on Mars. The $353,078.00 grant will fund the development of 3D spectral-element wave simulations to characterize seismic signals received from a broadband seismometer on the INSIGHT mission....
- This is a $412,363.61 grant awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), a prominent non-profit research and development organization. The grant is for electromagnetic sounding of the interior of Mars using the InSight and MAVEN spacecraft, which will complement the seismological and geodesy investigations by InSight and inform the principal structures in Mars' crust and mantle. This work is focused on determining the presence or...
- This is a task order awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center to Cornell Technical Services LLC, a small technology and professional services company, to provide Standing Review Board (SRB) support for the Mars 2020 (M2020) project. The purpose of an SRB is to independently assess the health and progress of the project against its plan, readiness for the next phase, and compliance with NASA requirements. The contract has a ceiling value of...
- This federal contract award to the Planetary Science Institute (PSI), a non-profit research organization, is for a study to constrain the sources and magnitudes of non-geothermal heat flux observed by the InSight Heat Flow and Physical Properties Probe (HP3) instrument on Mars. The primary objectives are to model factors such as lander-scale shadowing, regional-scale heat flux focusing, and seasonal or long-term surface temperature changes that can impact the measured geothermal heat production....
- This federal contract award is for support to the Mars 2020 project Independent Safety Review Panel (INSRP) in the review of the project's Safety Analysis Report (SAR) and development of the INSRP Safety Evaluation Report (SER). The support is focused on three areas: reviewing program-generated materials, drafting and defending the INSRP SER, and providing technical support for the evaluation of potential accident scenarios that could release radioactive materials. The contract was awarded to...
- This is a federal grant award to The Trustees of Princeton University Office of Research and Project Administration, doing business as Princeton University, to conduct research related to understanding the interior structure of Mars. The research aims to predict seismic wave travel times, waveforms, and normal mode oscillation frequencies for models of Mars's core and mantle, and compare these predictions to data from the InSight mission. The research will leverage both body wave and normal mode...
- This is a $441,125 grant awarded by NASA's Shared Services Center to the Space Science Institute (SSI), a non-profit research organization based in Boulder, Colorado. The grant supports a research project to use the InSight lander's cameras to monitor atmospheric opacity, characterize atmospheric dust, study boundary-layer meteorology, identify and characterize ice clouds and hazes, and measure night opacity and micrometeorite impacts on Mars. The proposed work leverages experience gained from...
- The Planetary Science Institute was awarded a $117,581 research grant by NASA's Shared Services Center on February 25, 2021, for scientific research supporting the Mars 2020 mission. The project focuses on leveraging the Radar Imager for Mars' Subsurface Experiment (RIMFAX) and the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA) instruments to characterize subsurface thermal properties and structure on Mars. Specifically, the research will utilize RIMFAX's passive radiometry capabilities to...

"" OTHER FUNCTIONS: TASK ORDER TITLE: 1.1 INSIGHT (INTERIOR EXPLORATION USING SEISMIC INVESTIGATIONS, GEODESY, AND HEAT TRANSPORT) PROJECT STANDING REVIEW BOARD (SRB) AND INSIGHT SRB MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT FOR PRELIMINARY DESIGN REVIEW (PDR), CRITICAL DESIGN REVIEW (CDR), SYSTEM INTEGRATION REVIEW (SIR) 3.1 THE INSIGHT MISSION IS HOSTED BY JPL AND MANAGED OUT OF MSFC AS PART OF THE DISCOVERY NEW FRONTIERS/LUNAR QUEST PROGRAM OFFICE. INSIGHT WILL INVESTIGATE THE INTERIOR STRUCTURE AND PROCESSES OF MARS, RELATING THESE TO THE EVOLUTION OF ALL ROCKY PLANETS, AND WILL DETERMINE ITS PRESENT LEVEL OF TECTONIC ACTIVITY AND METEORITE IMPACT FLUX. THE INSIGHT MISSION WILL REVEAL THE PROCESSES OF FORMATION AND DIFFERENTIATION OF THE MARTIAN CORE AND CRUST, AND ILLUMINATES THE EVOLUTION OF ITS INTERIOR BY DETERMINING: THE THICKNESS AND STRUCTURE OF THE CRUST; THE COMPOSITION AND STRUCTURE OF THE MANTLE; THE SIZE, COMPOSITION, AND PHYSICAL STATE OF THE CORE; THE THERMAL STATE OF THE INTERIOR; THE RATE AND DISTRIBUTION OF INTERNAL SEISMIC ACTIVITY AND THE RATE OF METEORITE IMPACTS ON THE SURFACE 3.2 A STANDING REVIEW BOARD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR INDEPENDENTLY ASSESSING THE HEALTH OF THE PROGRAM. INDEPENDENT REVIEWS OF PROGRAMS ARE CONDUCTED AT DEFINED LIFECYCLE MILESTONES AND ARE USED TO OBJECTIVELY ASSESS THE PROJECT S PROGRESS AGAINST THE PROJECT PLAN, ITS READINESS TO PROCEED TO THE NEXT LIFECYCLE PHASE, COMPLIANCE WITH NPR 7120.5 AND NPR 7123.1 REQUIREMENTS. 3.3 THE PURPOSE OF THIS TASK IS TO OBTAIN SUPPORT FOR THE INSIGHT PROJECT LIFE CYCLE REVIEWS, SUBSYSTEM REVIEWS, AND ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES.
