About this award
This is a firm fixed-price delivery order awarded by NASA's Langley Research Center to Fibertek, Inc., a small business manufacturer of advanced photonics and engineering services. The objective is the development of a single-frequency 1064 nm pump laser transmitter required for the GOLD (Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk) instrument. The pump laser will be frequency converted to provide 532 nm and 355 nm outputs needed for the GOLD system, and will also be used to pump the optical parametric oscillators and optical mixers in a nonlinear optics module. The design is compatible for operation in a low-pressure, low-temperature UAV and space environment, though the delivered pump laser will not undergo explicit space qualification testing. The contract has a ceiling value of $422,894 and a completion date of December 8, 2010. This award is not associated with a set-aside program.
Description
Recovery act funds the objective of the contractor s effort is the development of the single-frequency 1064 NM pump laser transmitter (hereafter referred to as the pump laser) required for the gold instrument. The 1064 NM pump laser output shall be frequency converted to provide the 532 NM and 355 NM outputs required for the gold system. The pump laser shall also be used to pump the optical parametric oscillators (opos) and optical mixers in a nonlinear optics module (NLO module. The design architecture shall be compatible for operation in a low pressure, low temperature UAV environment and space environment; however, the packaging of the delivered pump laser is not required to insure operation in low pressure or vacuum environments and the delivered pump laser will not undergo explicit space qualification testing. The pump laser shall be tested as a lidar transmitter in a nadir viewing mode from a global UAV global hawk aircraft 3.0 technical objectives and specifications the contractor shall build and deliver a frequency converted, pulsed, wavelength-tunable, single-frequency ND:YAG laser suitable as a gold transmitter and a pump for the ITT NLO module developed under a separate contract with ITT.
