Description
"" title: project management support to NASA's sbir and sttr programs the goals of the small business innovation research (sbir) and the small business technology transfer (sttr) programs are to stimulate technological innovation in the private sector; strengthen the role of small businesses in meeting federal research and development needs; increase the commercial application of these research results; and encourage participation of socially and economically disadvantaged persons and women-owned small businesses in federally-funded research. Each year, the federal government invests almost $2.6 billion in technology development through the sbir and sttr programs. NASA, as one of eleven federal organizations with an sbir program, competitively awards approximately $160 million to small business concerns who conduct r & d in areas of interest to the agency. These awards focus on meeting the r & d needs of NASA s mission directorates; namely, aeronautics, science, human exploration and operations, and space technology.
