About this award

This is a firm fixed-price delivery order contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Kennedy Space Center to Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC). The contract is for the fabrication of two science carrier root trays and a science carrier microcontroller checkout system for the Advanced Plant Habitat (APH) program. The total ceiling value of the contract is $181,970.14, and the period of performance is from the date of issuance through September 30, 2016. The contract does not have a set-aside designation. SNC is the prime contractor, and there is no information provided about any major subcontractors. The APH program is part of NASA's broader efforts to enable long-duration space missions by developing advanced plant habitats for food production and other applications.

Description

Task order 4 - procure material & parts for science carriers and science carrier microcontroller checkout unit 1.0 introduction the contractor shall fabricate two science carrier (2.8) root trays per the final design and in accordance with the requirements in system requirements document (SRD) for the plant habitat (PH) PH-R0001. The contractor shall also fabricate a science carrier microcontroller checkout system to test all the sensors that are in the root tray. The contractor shall procure the flight parts for two science carrier root trays and the ground parts and flight parts required to interface with the root tray electronics. Period of performance: issuance of task order through september 30, 2016. 2.0 subsystem fabrication 2.1 fabrication procedures the contractor shall utilize existing approved fabrication procedures for the science carrier root trays (2.8). 2.2 assembly tooling the contractor shall utilize existing tooling necessary for assembly of the science carrier root trays and checkout system. 2.3 hardware assembly the contractor shall assemble the science carrier root tray hardware in a matter consistent with spaceflight payloads and trained to NASA STD-8739 and per fabrication procedures. 2.4 hardware functional testing the contractor shall utilize existing functional test plan to test the science carrier root tray with the checkout system. 3.0 science carrier microcontroller checkout system the contractor shall procure material and fabricate a science carrier microcontroller checkout system that is compatible with the science carrier root tray electronics. The contractor shall procure hardware that is compatible with a flight science carrier root tray. 4.0 monthly reports the contractor shall submit monthly reports of all work accomplished during each month of contract performance. Reports shall be in narrative form, brief, and informal. They shall include the contract number, task order number, a quantitative description of progress, an indication of any current problems that may impede performance, proposed corrective action, and a discussion of the work to be performed during the next monthly reporting period. Monthly reports shall also include: page 2 of 2 APH science carrier fabrication 1.) a list of all the fabrication procedures that are being executed. 2.) a list of all the items that need to be procured (bill of material) which includes the date the procurement was placed and expected delivery date. 3.) a fabrication status on the two science carrier (2.8) root trays and the science carrier microcontroller checkout system. 5.0 hardware procurements the contractor shall procure the material and parts required to fabricate two flight science carrier root trays that are based on the NASA & orbitec agreed to bill of material (BOM) and submit a final list of individual components.
