Description
On july 6, 2012 with the signing into law of the moving ahead for progress in the 21ST century (map-21) transportation authorization, FTA shall be required to implement strategies and tools to support its oversight of public transportation safety. A key element in the map-21 legislation provides the requirement and authority to develop a nation-wide certified safety-training program. This certification program shall affect potentially 2,000 public transportation agencies and require each agency representative responsible for safety oversight to certify through FTA s training curriculum. As such, FTA is responsible for the identification and tracking of each agency representative. In addition, FTA must provide web-based learning opportunities for safety oversight representatives at the federal, state and local levels to meet the training demand.
