The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District awarded an $8.1M firm fixed-price definitive contract to Barnegat Bay Dredging Co Inc., a New Jersey-based small disadvantaged business, on August 14, 2025, for maintenance dredging of the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway (NJIWW) and adjacent waterways in the Cape May area. This total small business set-aside contract extends through December 1, 2027, and involves clearing shoals from federal navigation channels to restore required depths of 6–14 feet below mean low water, constructing containment dikes for dredged material management, and implementing marsh habitat restoration through beneficial use placement of excavated sediments. The work will utilize hydraulic pipeline dredging equipment with a 12–14 inch discharge diameter and will leverage government-provided upland confined disposal facilities and coastal environmental restoration sites.
This award represents the fourth prime contract the Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District has awarded to Barnegat Bay Dredging since 2022, bringing the company's total contract value with the agency to approximately $18.0M. The contractor brings specialized expertise in Mid-Atlantic dredging operations and has successfully executed similar projects including maintenance dredging of the Maurice River and prior NJIWW work. The contract reflects the Corps' commitment to maintaining critical federal navigation infrastructure while supporting coastal resilience and ecosystem restoration objectives through experienced small business partners capable of executing complex, multi-year dredging operations.
