About this award

This is a 38-month, $36,483,764.61 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract awarded by the U.S. Army's Program Executive Office for Ammunition (PEO Ammunition) to Chemring Sensors And Electronic Systems, Inc. (CSES), a foreign-owned defense manufacturer. The contract supports the Husky Mounted Detection System (HMDS) Program of Record, which provides advanced ground penetrating radar (GPR) capabilities to detect buried explosive hazards and weapons caches during route clearance and area clearance missions.

The contract includes a 23-month Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) base period and a 15-month Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) option. HMDS-A2, the configuration being delivered under this award, equips the manned and unmanned Husky vehicle platform with the GPR, deep buried detection, and marking capabilities required for this critical counter-IED mission. No set-aside was used for this competitively awarded contract.

Description

This is a 38-month contract in support of the husky mounted detection system (hmds) program of record (POR). This contract includes a 23-month engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) base period with a 15-month low rate initial production (lrip) option. The hmds is a counter-IED system with the capabilities to detect underbelly ieds and antitank landmines buried in primary and secondary roads. As a result, the hmds is vital to route clearance packages (RCP). Hmds uses an advanced, high-performance ground penetrating radar (GPR) to detect both non-metallic and metal-cased buried threats, including ieds constructed of bulk explosives and low-metal pressure plates. This proposed contract is referred to as the hmds increment a, configuration 2, henceforth known as, hmds-A2. Hmds-A2 provides the GPR, deep buried detection (DBD), and marking capabilities, installed on the manned and unmanned mark III husky, that enable detection of underbelly-attack explosive hazards during route clearance missions and weapons caches during area clearance missions.
