This is a firm fixed price Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to Interdisciplinary Consulting Corp (IC2), a for-profit small business manufacturer. The contract is set aside for total small business participation. Under this $124,986 award, IC2 will develop a fiber-optic, micromachined five-hole probe for three-dimensional flow measurements in harsh environments. The goal is to create a...
This is a cost-plus-fixed-fee delivery order awarded by NASA Langley Research Center (LARC) to the National Institute of Aerospace Associates (NIA), a non-profit research organization. The $29,998.00 contract is to support a Maneuver Acoustic Flight Test at Eglin Air Force Base in 2011. The primary purpose is to obtain a benchmark database of detailed acoustic source noise characteristics for a maneuvering helicopter. This data will be used to predict ground noise footprints, develop low-noise...
This is a delivery order awarded by the Langley Research Center, a civilian agency within the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), to the National Institute of Aerospace Associates (NIA), a non-profit research organization. The $57,477.90 contract is for a Wind-Tunnel Balance Design Trade Study. The objective is to research wind-tunnel balance designs that do not require blind cuts, which would allow for faster, more cost-effective fabrication using milling, drilling, and...
NASA Langley Research Center awarded a $407,749.51 firm-fixed-price delivery order to Eagle Aviation Technologies LLC, doing business as Eagle Technologies, LLC, to develop a design and fabricate a three-dimensional test article for use in the Icing Research Tunnel (IRT) at the NASA Glenn Research Center. THIS PROCUREMENT IS A RESULT OF A NASA RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT (NRA), NNH06ZEA001N-SUP3 THAT WAS ISSUED ON MAY 23, 2006 TO SOLICIT PROPOSALS IN SUPPORT OF NASA'S AERONAUTICS RESEARCH MISSION DIRECTORATE (ARMD). ONE OF THE PROPOSALS, THE MEASUREMENT OF FREE-STREAM MACH NUMBER, PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, DENSITY, AND ANGLE-OF-ATTACK AT SUPERSONIC SPEEDS USING CONICAL AND WEDGE PROBES (PROPOSAL NUMBER 06-SUP3-06-0012) SUBMITTED BY EAGLE AERONAUTICS, INC., WAS SELECTED TO SUPPORT THE AVIATION SAFETY PROGRAM, AND IN PARTICULAR THE SUPERSONIC S PROJECT 3. THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THIS NRA TO PROVIDE NASA WITH FLIGHT SAFETY ENHANCEMENT THROUGH A PROCESS TO IDENTIFY ACCURATE MEASUREMENT OF MACH NUMBER AND ANGLE OF ATTACK AT TRANSONIC AND SUPERSONIC SPEEDS. THIS MEASUREMENT IS IMPORTANT FOR MANY REASONS IN CARRYING OUT FLIGHT RESEARCH SUCH AS ACCURATELY DEFINING THE INSTANTANEOUS IN-FLIGHT CONDITIONS OF THE GENERATING AND PROBING AIRCRAFT ALONG WITH ITS FLOW-FIELD. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT IN AVOIDING FOCUSED BOOMS BY CONTROLLED ASCENT AND DESCENT TO AND FROM CRUISE OF COMMERCIAL SUPERSONIC AIRCRAFT. CHANGES IN ALTITUDE AND ATTITUDE AND THE RESULTANT CHANGES IN FREE STREAM PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE ALONG WITH CHANGES IN VELOCITY ALL CONTRIBUTE TO MACH NUMBER VARIATIONS. EAGLE AERONAUTICS, INC. WILL WORK WITH NASA LANGLEY RESEARCH CENTER, NASA DRYDEN FLIGHT RESEARCH CENTER AND A QUALIFIED CONTRACTOR WILL MANAGE THE DESIGN, FABRICATION AND TESTING OF TWO CONICAL AND TWO WEDGE PROBES FOR USE IN WIND TUNNELS AND ALSO DESIGNED FOR USE ON FULL-SCALE SUPERSONIC AIRCRAFT. THESE PROBES WOULD BE DESIGNED FOR USE IN ACQUIRING EXACTING NEAR-FIELD SONIC BOOM SIGNATURES DURING WING TUNNEL TESTS AND IN-FLIGHT TEST ALONG WITH THE VEHICLE MACH NUMBER, FLOW ANGULARITY AND ANGLE-OF-ATTACK NOT PREVIOUSLY ACQUIRED WITH THE CURRENT PROBE SYSTEM THAT ARE SUBJECT TO ERROR DUE TO SYSTEMS LAG AND BALLOON MEASUREMENTS OF REQUIRED ATMOSPHERIC PROPERTIES. COMPARISONS OF THE RESULTS OF THE CONICAL AND WEDGE PROBES WILL BE MADE WITH THOSE IN CURRENT USE. THIS ACQUISITION WILL RESULT IN A 15 MONTH FIRM-FIXED PRICE CONTRACT TO BE CONDUCTED BY EAGLE AERONAUTICS, INC. OF HAMPTON, VA FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF $209,506.56.
