About this award
Honeywell International Inc.'s Aerospace Golden Valley division was awarded a $3,580,453.00 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop and demonstrate multi-functional millimeter-to-centimeter scale robotic platforms focused on untethered mobility, maneuverability, and dexterity. This effort, known as the Short-Range Independent Microrobotic Platforms (SHRIMP) program, will also provide foundational research in micro-actuator materials and energy-efficient power systems for micro-robotic systems. The potential applications include search and rescue, disaster relief, hazardous environment inspection, in-flight control of aerodynamic platforms, steerable optics, and prosthetics. This is a definitive contract with a completion date of June 5, 2022, and no set-aside designations were indicated.
Description
The dapra short-range independent microrobotic platforms (shrimp) program will develop and demonstrate, through a series of olympic-themed competitions, multi-functional MM-to-CM scale robotic platforms with a focus on untethered mobility, maneuverability, and dexterity. To achieve this goal, shrimp will also provide foundational research in the area of micro-actuator materials and energy efficient power systems for extremely swap-constrained microrobotic systems. IT is expected that such advances will be enabling for applications including search and rescue, disaster relief, hazardous environment inspection, in-flight control of aerodynamic platforms, steerable optics, and prosthetics.
