About this award
This is a Cooperative Agreement awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the University of Rochester for an effort led by Professor James R. Fienup. The purpose is to apply refined phase retrieval algorithms to support NASA's image-based wavefront sensing and control (WFSC) for alignment of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) during ground testing, commissioning after launch, and telescope maintenance. This $203,000.00 contract is intended to reduce the risk of failure during JWST ground testing and on-orbit use of the WFSC system. The contract does not have a set-aside designation.
Description
We propose an effort in which a university of rochester team, lead by prof. James r. Fienup, applies refined phase retrieval algorithms that will support NASA's image/based wfsc for alignment of the james webb space telescope (jwst)during ground testing, during commissioning after launch, and for telescope maintenance, for non-ideal situations for which the baseline WFS approaches were not designed. This effort will substantially reduce the risk of failure during ground testing and on-orbit use of the system.
