Description
NM mesa programs are coordinated through a state office and seven regional offices staffed by regional coordinators. This program is a joint effort between NASA, NM mesa, NM mesa advisor/teacher, NM mesa students, and parents within the communities of the targeted schools. School programs are administered by a teacher (typically a math or science teacher) from the school. NASA learning materials are introduced into the curriculum by regional coordinators that host a teacher and parent meeting to introduce and solicit input needed to align the NASA-approved curriculum and materials with the specific needs and trust levels of these remote communities. NASA-based material selection will be incorporated into the in-school, after school and summer program. In creating this plan, NM mesa considers each NM mesa teacher and student participants input on types of stem career awareness methods that will be accepted in these predominately hispanic and native american cultures. With this feedback, NM mesa assures sensitivity to the cultural attributes of the target group.
