About this award
This is a $206,172 cooperative agreement awarded by the NASA Shared Services Center to Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) to advance the study of Titan's atmospheric composition through spectroscopic techniques using the TEXES spectrometer at the IRTF observatory. The work is motivated by NASA's 2022 Decadal Survey for Planetary Science and has the potential to inform our understanding of Titan's atmosphere and the origins of life in the universe. SwRI, a prominent nonprofit research and development organization, has extensive experience as a federal contractor and grantee, supporting complex government missions across diverse technical domains. This award does not have a set-aside designation, indicating SwRI's ability to compete effectively in full and open competitions.
Description
The project will advance the study of the chemical composition of titan s atmosphere through spectroscopic techniques using the texes spectrometer at the irtf observatory. During the project. The swri CO-investigator will calibrate irtf texes data of titan extracted from the irsa archive. And provide the data to the NASA PI (DR nixon). This work, motivated by NASA s recent 2022 decadal survey for planetary science ("oceans, worlds and life') has the potential to strongly inform our understanding of titan s atmosphere, and hence the origins of life in the universe.
