About this award
The University of Rochester has been awarded a $151,879 cooperative agreement by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center. This agreement supports the NASA Atmospheric Tomography (ATOM) Mission, which deploys an extensive gas and aerosol payload on the NASA DC-8 aircraft to conduct systematic, global-scale sampling of the atmosphere from 0.2 to 12 km altitudes. The data collected will be used to improve the representation of chemically reactive gases and short-lived climate forcers in global models of atmospheric chemistry and climate. Under this agreement, the University of Rochester is to provide code development and simulations to support this research using the GEOS-Chem and MODELE global models. No set-aside designation was used for this award.
Description
The NASA atmospheric tomography (atom) mission deploys an extensive gas and aerosol payload on the NASA DC-8 aircraft for systematic, global-scale sampling of the atmosphere, profiling continuously from 0.2 to 12 KM altitude. This data set will be used to improve the representation of chemically reactive gases and short-lived climate forcers in global models of atmospheric chemistry and climate. In support of these efforts, murray is to provide the necessary code development and simulations to two global models, geos-chem and modele.
