About this award
This is a $200,000.00 cooperative agreement awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to the American Historical Association (AHA), a non-profit organization, to administer the NASA/AHA Fellowships in Aerospace History. The fellowships are intended to support significant scholarly research projects in the history of aerospace, from the earliest human interest in flight to the present. Fellows will be encouraged to utilize the resources available at the NASA Archives, National Archives, Library of Congress, and other collections in the Washington, D.C. area. The research resulting from these fellowships will contribute to the NASA History Office's efforts to document and preserve the agency's history, and to disseminate aerospace information widely. This award does not have a set-aside designation.
Description
The NASA/AHA fellowships in aerospace history are intended to support significant scholarly research projects in aerospace history. These annual fellowships grant the opportunity to engage in significant and sustained advanced research in all aspects of the history of aerospace from the earliest human interest in flight to the present, including cultural and intellectual history, economic history, history of law and public policy, and the history of science, engineering, and management. Among the resources available to historians of space, many are at the NASA archives. These include materials related to the international geophysical year and NASA missions, as well as to the history of the institution itself. Fellows will be encouraged to take advantage of these resources at NASA archives as well as at the national archives, the national academies of science, the library of congress, the smithsonian air and space museum, and other collections in the washington, DC, area. Additionally, fellows will be expected to write a report and present a public lecture on the fellowship experience. NASA's history office is dedicated to documenting and preserving the agency's history. The research resulting from the NASA/AHA aerospace history fellowships will contribute to the two key functions of the NASA history office: widely disseminating aerospace information and helping NASA managers to understand and learn from past successes and failures.
