About this award
This is a $143,190 cooperative agreement awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Armstrong Flight Research Center to H Nu Photonics LLC, doing business as HNU Photonics, to develop the BioChip SuborbitalLab (BCSOL). The BCSOL is an automated microfluidic and imaging platform designed to observe live-cell function in real-time during sub-orbital spaceflight in order to study the effects of microgravity on human physiology. The research aims to elucidate the mechanisms behind observed neurological effects of long-duration space missions to support the development of therapeutic countermeasures. The agreement has a completion date of September 30, 2020. No set-aside designation is mentioned.
Description
Biochip suborbitallab: an automated microfluidic and imaging platform for live-cell investigations in mircrogravity the purpose of this cooperative agreement is to understand the effect and criticality of microgravity on human physiology for long-term space flight. In order to fully understand the effects of microgravity on cell function, researchers need the ability to monitor subcellular processes in real-time to identify, characterize and quantify the transient, yet significant cellular responses to microgravity. The biochip suborbitallab (bcsol) is being developed to offer government, academic and industry researchers the ability to observe cell function in real-time for the duration of a sub-orbital flight.
