The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking multidisciplinary research teams to conduct Convergence Research that addresses complex, compelling problems through deep integration across disciplines. The "Growing Convergence Research" (GCR) opportunity aims to cultivate and grow the earliest foundations of this approach, exploring novel avenues not previously investigated that are at the forefront of advancing science. Proposals must make a convincing case that the research integrates across NSF directorate or division boundaries and is not currently supported by other NSF programs. The evaluation will focus on the ability to develop highly innovative solutions to critical scientific or technical challenges.

Successful teams will receive initial funding for a two-year Phase I, with the possibility of an additional three-year Phase II award pending exceptional progress. The total budget for Phase I may not exceed $1,200,000, and the total for Phase II may not exceed $2,400,000. The work is expected to be performed primarily at academic and research institutions across the United States.
