The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking proposals for the Fluid Dynamics program, which is part of the Transport Phenomena cluster. The program supports fundamental research to gain an understanding of various fluid dynamics phenomena through experiments, theoretical developments, and computational discovery. Key areas of interest include turbulence and transition, bio-inspired fluid mechanics, flow of complex fluids, micro- and nano-fluidics, interfacial interactions and instabilities, and wind and ocean energy harvesting. Proposals should address the novelty and/or potentially transformative nature of the work, as well as its importance in terms of engineering science and potential societal/industrial impact. Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) program proposals are strongly encouraged.
The typical award size for the program is around $100,000 per year, with a duration of one to three years. Small equipment proposals of less than $100,000 will also be considered. Proposals requesting substantially higher amounts may be returned without review. The awards will be provided through grants, and the program is open to unrestricted applicant types.
