Added: Apr 02, 2018 12:40 pm Imaging brain sections using either confocal or widefield fluorescence microscopy is an essential step for experiments that are being carried out by many basic science investigators within the NIMH intramural program. The program recently acquired a Nikon C2 Confocal Microscope System. This is a basic system that lacks features such as motorized optical elements that facilitate sophisticated experiments that investigators would like to perform. The objective of this purchase is to upgrade that system to meet current and future requirements of intramural investigators. Specifically, the goal is to provide a programmable platform on which either widefield or confocal fluorescence microscopy can be efficiently performed and on which these modalities can be efficiently combined in the same specimens, so that rapid widefield scanning over tissue on multiple microscope slides can be used to guide high resolution confocal imaging.
