About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of Interior's U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is seeking laboratory testing services for microplastics analysis of water and sediment samples through a Request for Quote (RFQ) numbered 140G0225Q0003. The solicitation requires a qualified laboratory to analyze 16 water samples and 6 sediment samples per year, examining particles ranging from 50-5,000 micrometers using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The contract will be awarded using the lowest-priced technically acceptable method, with vendors required to submit detailed technical specifications demonstrating compliance with the statement of work. Quotes must be submitted electronically to Kekila Keuma at KKeuma@usgs.gov by December 11, 2024, with award selection based on technical acceptability and lowest price. Vendors must provide separate line item pricing for water and sediment samples by year and submit authentic manufacturer-certified products in original packaging.
The solicitation is a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 541380 for Laboratory Testing Services, with potential contractors required to be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM). The contract period includes a base period from December 13, 2024, to February 28, 2025, with two potential option years, potentially totaling 48 water samples and 18 sediment samples over the entire contract duration. Laboratories must commit to delivering microplastics data within 180 days of receiving samples and categorizing particles by type, including films, foams, fragments, fibers/lines, and pellets/beads. The place of performance is the New Mexico Water Science Center in Albuquerque, NM, with the work focusing on comprehensive microplastics analysis to support scientific research and environmental monitoring efforts.
