About this opportunity

NASA's Shared Services Center seeks geodynamo research services, with a capability submission deadline of May 14, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. This is a sole source procurement directed to the University of Texas at Austin, issued under FAR 12.102(a) authority. The procurement is non-competitive unless the Government determines, in its sole discretion and based on submitted capabilities statements, to conduct it on a full and open competitive basis.

Performance is located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The NAICS code is 611310, Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools; PSC code U099, Education/Training-Other.

The contractor shall generate 1,028 geodynamo model solutions using an open-source dynamo model to populate initial ensemble conditions for NASA GSFC's Geomagnetic Ensemble Modeling System (GEMS), which performs geomagnetic secular variation forecasting. Solutions must meet strict criteria: time intervals between ensemble members must be at least 0.5 percent of the magnetic free-decay time or longer, and the poloidal magnetic field magnitude at the mean surface must fall within three standard deviations of the ensemble mean. Deliverables include the 1,028 solutions, Fortran subroutines for reading them, and comprehensive documentation covering simulation configurations, data formats, and ensemble statistics. Performance period is six months from fund receipt.

Interested organizations may submit written capabilities and qualifications statements only; oral communications are not acceptable. The NASA FAR Supplement Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, applies. Primary contact is Cody Guidry (Cody.d.guidry@nasa.gov); secondary contact is Kimberlynn Lancaster (Kimberlynn.m.lancaster@nasa.gov).
