About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 8 has awarded contract 36C24825P1757 to MELLING LLC for $361,609.12 to provide one (1) new Advanced surgical microscope for the Otolaryngology Clinic at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, Florida. The contract was awarded on July 31, 2025, and is set aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses. The procurement addresses scheduling conflicts between the Neurosurgical and Otolaryngology sections that currently share a single Zeiss Kinevo microscope, which has caused delays in surgical care and forced referrals to community care providers due to extended wait times. The new microscope will provide necessary redundancy and ensure continuity of care when the existing equipment is unavailable for maintenance or repair.
Notice text
1. GENERAL: The James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, located at 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd,
Tampa, Florida 33612, requires one (1) new Advanced surgical microscope for the
Otolaryngology Clinic.
2. BACKGROUND: Currently, the only surgical microscope at the facility meeting the needs of
both the Neurosurgical and Otolaryngology sections is the Zeiss Kinevo. The Kinevo
microscope has traditionally been primarily used by Neurosurgery. Since the Otolaryngology
section began performing microvascular reconstructions, both sections have had to share this
microscope. Sharing has led to multiple scheduling conflicts, resulting in delayed surgical care
and, in some cases, Veterans being referred to community care due to extended wait times.
Acquiring a new Advanced surgical microscope will provide necessary redundancy in our
facility’s capabilities, ensuring continuity of care when the Kinevo microscope is unavailable due
to maintenance or repair. The Kinevo microscope has been out of service multiple times in the
past one to two years, and no other current surgical microscope at the facility is an optimal
alternative for either Neurosurgical or Otolaryngology reconstructive procedures.
Awarded contract 36C24825P1757 to MELLING LLC for 361609.12 on 2025-07-31.
