The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 7, has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to sole source a contract for Impella CP catheters to Geomed, Abiomed's exclusive Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) representative. The procurement is for the Atlanta VA Medical Center and involves a specialized heart pump and companion sheath bundle used in high-risk cardiac surgical procedures. Abiomed is identified as the sole supplier of this specific catheter, which is necessary to replace catheters for an existing Abiomed Impella Controller. The notice was posted on December 31, 2024, with an estimated award date of January 3, 2025. The procurement falls under NAICS code 339113 for Surgical Appliance and Supplies Manufacturing, with a small business size standard of 800 employees.
The primary purpose of this Special Notice is to provide transparency about the VA's intent to make a direct award and allow potential contractors an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities. Interested parties are invited to submit capability statements, proposals, or quotations by January 3, 2025, at 10 AM EST, with responses to be sent via email to Contract Specialist Shanique Littlejohn. While this is not a competitive solicitation, the VA will consider all submitted responses and retain sole discretion in determining whether to proceed with the sole source procurement. Contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) to be eligible for award, and they are encouraged to provide clear documentation demonstrating their ability to satisfy the requirement. The VA emphasizes that it will not be responsible for any costs incurred by parties responding to the notice, and all written responses will be fully considered. The government will ultimately determine if a solicitation will be issued based on the analysis of received responses.
