W91CRB‐17‐R‐5009

1. Question: We are going to submit a bid for the subject solicitation, W91CRB‐17‐R‐5009, however I have a question. Regarding the Weapon Sights' Spares, are you able to tell me the maker of the rifle and the exact rifle that the AK47 Piccatiny Rail Brackets will be fitted to? There are several different configurations for this rifle since there have been quite a few builders of the years.

Response: The exact model of the rifle is ‐ AKM, 6p1 caliber 7.62 mm. Produced in the Soviet Union until 1989.

2. Question: In the Q&A released today, it was stated that the weapon sights would be used with ‐ AKM, 6p1 caliber 7.62 mm.

Question: Is it allowable to replace Dust Cover of AKM 6p1 with the cover that has Picatinny (MIL‐STD 1913) rail on it? It is assumed that replacement dust cover should be supplied together with thermal weapon sights parts?

We would like to note that AKM 6p1 where not designed nor built to accommodate attachment of optical sights including thermal weapon sights. Unless AKM 6p1 was modified by users it does not have side mount (dovetail mount on their left side) which allows attachment of optical sights.

It is important to point out that conversion solutions that replace gas tube assembly on the AKM type weapons and add Picatinny (MIL‐STD 1913) rail on top of it are not suitable for use with PAS‐13 type devices (or any other magnified optical and thermal imaging sights) because they place scope too far forward from user’s eye to be useable.

Response: Prospective bidders should offer AKM double rails to fill the request for "AK47 Picatinny rail bracket". Examples of such commercial products include but are not limited to ("AKM‐ QuickReleaseNUMRICH", "AKM‐QuickReleaseRTG", and/or "AKM‐QuickReleaseUTG"). Prospective offers shall not be obliged to guarantee that their offer supports a PAS‐13.
