SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

1.1.1 Project Description

The project consists of replacing two culverts that cross under the Farrenburg Levee. Also, as part of this project the stretches of levee that are located within the construction easements for each of the culvert sites shall have their levee sections that are below the design grade elevation for the Farrenburg Levee of 309.0' raised to this elevation. Cofferdams will also be constructed at each of the culvert sites in order to provide flood protection during the culverts replacement work. A borrow site will be required as well as part of this project which will consist of existing haul road improvements/maintenance, as well as excavation, processing, and hauling a portion of the embankment material needed from the borrow site in order to complete the project.

The estimated value of the work is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.

1.1.2 Location

The work for this project is located in New Madrid County, Missouri. The exact location will be indicated on the contract drawings. The Contracting Officer's Representative will be available to show the construction sites of the work at the two organized site visits.

1.2 EXISTING WORK

In addition to "FAR 52.236-9, Protection of Existing Vegetation, Structures, Equipment, Utilities, and Improvements":

a. Remove or alter existing work in such a manner as to prevent injury or damage to any portions of the existing work which remain.

b. Repair or replace portions of existing work which have been altered during construction operations to match existing or adjoining work, as approved by the Contracting Officer. At the completion of operations, existing work shall be in a condition equal to or better than that which existed before new work started.

1.3 LOCATION OF UNDERGROUND FACILITIES

Verify the elevations of existing piping, utilities, and any type of underground obstruction not indicated to be installed or removed, but indicated or discovered during work to be conducted or installed. For further instructions and details, see the paragraph entitled, "OBSTRUCTIONS" in Section 00 80 00.00 11 SPECIAL CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS.

Cross sections of the areas remaining to be filled shall be taken after clearing, grubbing, stripping, any required excavation, and placement and compaction of all available on-site material as specified above for the appropriate embankment item, but prior to commencement of benching operations if required. The cubic yardage to be paid for will be determined by the average end area method between the cross sections of the areas remaining to be filled and the theoretical cross sections of the completed embankment.

Embankment not constructed to specified grade and section including allowable tolerance as indicated on the Contractor's compliance survey will not be accepted. No allowance or payment will be made for embankment material placed outside the required theoretical grade and section.
