QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. What is the weight to the material the clamshell bucket will be handling?
a. The clamshell will generally be used for dredging sand, silt, and clay over limestone base and placement/removal of aggregates and base material for shoreline protection. A General Purpose digging bucket with bolt-on teeth in a 4 cu-yd size would be ideal. The clamshell bucket should have an overall design similar to an “Anvil Attachments GP” 4 cu-yd clamshell.
2. What material is the rip rap the grapple will be handling?
a. The Orange Peel grapple will primarily be used for placement of rip-rap and aquatic debris removal (ie. sunken trees and other items obstructing navigation channels). A grapple in a 4 cu-yd size would be ideal. The grapple should have 6 tongs, fully-closing design, and rated for heavy-duty use.
b. Smaller rip-rap are 2000-4000 lbs and 3’x3’ while larger rip-rap may range up-to 6000-8000 lbs and
6’x8’ in size.
3. How many tines should the grapple have? In 2.3.3, it states a 6 point grapple and in 2.22 and 2.22.3, it states a 4 point grapple.
a. 6 points
4. At what radius and boom length will the grapple be used to handle the rip rap?
a. This will vary. All boom lengths, radii are expected to be 30-60 feet.
1. Could we request a bit of clarification on the clamshell bucket? Also, what type of work will you be doing, and what material will you be wanting to move? Are you looking for a round nose bucket or a general purpose digging bucket?

2. Could we request a bit of clarification on the grapple bucket? For the orange peel grapple, there a number of different configurations possible. Any more detail on the application and specs on what you need would be very beneficial for everyone to make sure the end user gets a product that they can use.
