Contractor Q&A
Question 1: It appears in the specs that this upgrade to the DDC system is for the new equipment being updated. I am not sure if there is an existing head end software system on site, but the specs mention Niagara. Does the new system need to tie into the existing or are you looking for new controls including new head end software?
Answer 1: The existing building automation system (BAS) in the Clock Tower Annex complex consist of a Niagara Jace with BACnet, Lon, and Proprietary Robert Shaw controller/hardware. The purpose of this project is to eliminate the obsolete, Proprietary Robert
Shaw controllers and its associated communication bus. The project involves replacing obsolete, proprietary Robert Shaw controls in three locations. The controller in the Basement of the Clock
Tower building controls the building rest room exhaust fans and has a space temperature sensor attached to it. The control of the exhaust fan is to be moved to an existing spare Binary Output in a BACnet controller (MNB-300) located in the basement. The controller on the First Floor of the Clock Tower operates an existing VAV AHU. The details of I/O and programming requirements are laid out on the drawings. The controller on the Second Floor of the Clock
Tower operates an existing VAV AHU. The details of I/O and programming requirements are laid out on the drawings. The existing BACnet MSTP Bus is to be modified to add the new controllers for the VAV AHU’s located on the First and Second floors. The contractor shall provide programming of the new hardware and integrate the new controller data into the existing
JACE. The graphic screens in the JACE shall be updated to properly link the new control hardware to the existing BAS. As long as the new hardware installed can be programmed thru the existing programming tools (Workplace Tech suite) loaded on the operator work station, the contractor is not required to provide additional software. A site visit is highly recommended in order for the contractor to see the existing BAS, Niagara Screens, and OWS.
